Azure Recovery Services Vaults with Terraform

September 2026 - Present

Automated region-to-region disaster recovery for Azure workloads using Terraform.

The objective

Create a repeatable region-to-region recovery foundation for Azure workloads, with clear recovery procedures and RTO/RPO objectives.

My contribution

Designed the recovery foundation and automated its infrastructure with Terraform, including workload protection and access controls.

Engineering approach

  • Defined reusable modules for Recovery Services Vaults, backup policies, replication settings, protected workloads, and RBAC.
  • Configured recovery points and replication workflows for Azure VMs.
  • Documented failover and failback procedures so recovery could be operated consistently.

Validation and operational safeguards

  • Monitored replication health, backup status, and recovery readiness with alerting.
  • Validated the design through scheduled recovery drills.

The outcome

A repeatable recovery platform that reduced manual setup and improved operational consistency while supporting defined recovery objectives.
