Magento Web Application Deployment on Azure

September 2026 - Present

Deployed and operated a Magento web application on Red Hat Linux with Azure Application Gateway and blue-green releases.

The objective

Deliver Magento updates on Azure with controlled traffic cutovers and a recovery path that protects storefront availability.

My contribution

Designed and supported the Magento deployment on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, configured Application Gateway, and built the blue-green release approach.

Engineering approach

  • Used Application Gateway health probes and controlled backend pools to route traffic away from unhealthy instances.
  • Validated new application versions in an isolated environment before shifting traffic from the active environment.
  • Used staged cutovers and a documented rollback path to reduce release risk.

Validation and operational safeguards

  • Used smoke tests and monitoring before traffic cutovers.
  • Kept a documented rollback path available if a release needed reversal.

The outcome

More repeatable releases, improved recovery speed, and a safer way to deliver Magento updates with minimal customer disruption.

Deployment architecture

2. Shift trafficRoute healthy traffic after smoke testing.
3. Roll backReturn traffic to blue if a release needs reversal.
